DOES MORE MEGAPIXELS MEAN BETTER CAMERA ?

Do you have a phone? Does it have a camera? How much megapixels does it have? My phone has more megapixels than yours so mine has a better camera! These may be the words many of us heard. And most of think its correct. Also you might have seen many mobile commercials claiming that their mobile has so and so mega pixels etc.

BUT! Is it true? Have you ever thought about it. Is only having high   mega pixels enough to select a camera? What are actually Megapixels?  What are the other things we must see before selecting a camera? In this post we will discuss all of these things one by one and at-last get a clear image over this issue. I know you might be bored by now! So without any delay let's get started.

WHAT IS A MEGA PIXEL?

A megapixel means a million pixels. It refers to  the size of a image.  The resolution of digital cameras is usually expressed in terms of mega pixels. Photos with high mega pixels have more detail. It is specially useful while zooming or cropping a image so that minute details of the image can be captured. A image with high mega pixels means it has a large size and takes alot of time to transfer. It also occupies alot of space in the device.

IS ONLY HAVING MORE MEGA PIXELS ENOUGH?

By now, most of you all would have come to the conclusion that they are important. And would be arguing with me about whats wrong in it! But its only one side of the coin. Only having more mega pixels is not enough. To get a good pic your phone must also have many other things including good mega pixels.
SO, only mega pixels are not enough!!

 Let's see in detail....
Consider a phone with more mega-pixels but has poor sensor quality and poor lens quality. If you take a snap. What would be the result? Even though your camera can capture more details. But because of poor sensor, the camera cannot capture the light from every pixel.
Because of the poor quality lenses, the image would appear blurry.
At the end a bad photo and also scoldings and comments on your photography skills!

WHAT OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER?

1. Sensor quality and size

As discussed earlier, a camera sensor's size and quality determines the how much light it uses to create a image. This defines the clarity of the image. Higher the size of camera sensor more amount of light it can you and hence you can get a detailed image

2.Auto focus

Auto focus makes the camera focus on the main subject and can help you avoid blurr shots. If you need a focused pic like image of a text or notes, then auto focus comes into play. No matter how many mega pixels you have, you will get a ghastly image without auto focus.

3.No of cameras

Until 2 years ago. If you ask someone how many rear cameras does their phone has? There would a common answer i.e. one.But now some might say two, someone's answer might be 3 and so on. Now a days a mobile is having dual, triple or even quad camera. Among them only one is the main camera. The others would be depth sensor, ultra-wide sensor, or a macro camera. These are also very important in a phone depending on the type of shots you take.

4.Aperture

Aperture is one of the pillars of photography. The aperture is basically the opening in the lens through which light passes. It can be said as the iris of the camera. It controls the amount of light entering the camera. This helps to take wide varieties of shots. Many high end phones like samsung and iphone have a bright aperture than many other phones.

5.Shutter response

Shutter response means how many frames per second(fps) can your camera capture. It is very important to know as a quick fps can be useful in capturing a good photo especially when your subject is moving. To find out this you must read reviews of the phones.

CONCLUSION

At last we can come to the point that, considering only no.of mega pixels is not enough to determine the quality of the camera of your  phone. There are many things to consider before that. In-fact many review writers and technicians consider mega pixels as a II or III indicator to determine the camera quality. So when anyone comments on the mega-pixels and the camera quality show them this post. Hope you find it interesting.
